Week 3

    This blog post contains an infographic that highlights key ideas of what motivates students to learn, connections from two experts on how they support these ideas, as well as how the ISTE Student Standards align with it all. From this infographic, you will learning that creativity is the key to success when it comes to motivating students to learn. Getting creative with curriculum and assignments is how teachers need to keep students engaged, especially in the fast-paced, ever-changing world we live in today. Allowing students to have a choice towards a common learning objective will foster a growth mindset and will help them see the value in their learning.

    Hi, Emma! Great job on your post and infographic. It's easy to read and summarizes the key information really well. Motivation is so important and sometimes hard to foster in students, but remembering these points can be helpful when creating lessons and teaching. I think you also tied in Gura's concepts and the ISTE standard nicely. Well done! Thanks for your post.

This week, I collaborated with a peer to develop their SMART goal. The content of this blog will be focused on the following SMART goal: By the end of the semester, my 5th-grade students will work in teams to design and document a STEAM project (such as a bridge design or coding activity) using a shared Google Slides presentation.  Each student will contribute at least two original elements (such as data charts, design sketches, written explanations, pictures/video, or reflections), and all students will provide constructive feedback on at least two teammates’ contributions. Week 1

     My name is Emma VanBuskirk, and I am an elementary general education teacher in a small rural town in Illinois. I spent my first year teaching in a 4th-grade classroom and will continue to teach 4th grade in the upcoming school year. The Triple E Framework was created by Dr. Liz Kolb in 2011. This model has helped guide teachers on how to effectively integrate technology into their classrooms for the purpose of learning. Kolb’s framework focuses on three areas teachers should consider when using technology to help students achieve learning targets: Engagement, Enhancement, and Extension. Engagements ensure that students are actively engaged while using the technology tool. Enhancement looks at how the technology tool is able to deepen students’ understandings in ways that couldn’t happen without the tool. Extension observes how students can take what they have learned and make connections, and apply these skills to real work experiences outside of the classroom.
